How to hook up a sub woofer to my Sony Xplod system?

Do I need to hook up an Amp to my Sony Xplod stereo in order to use a 10" sub woofer on my car? Or can I just connect the sub directly to the in-dash player? And if I do, which ones are the amps that is good and suitable for this system? I just want some depth in my music, not that neighborhood awaking thingy. Its a Sony CDX-GT200 by the ways, Thanks

You’ll need an amp to drive a subwoofer. Power output from the head unit itself is only sufficient to drive normal speakers. Subwoofers need more power.

The Sony CDX-GT200 has one set of preamp outputs and it has a remote turn-on lead for an external amp so it’s a standard subwoofer installation. You’ll need the sub, monoblock amp, an appropriate enclosure, and a wiring kit.

If you prefer a "bass package" with everything you need (except an amp wiring kit), consider this Crunch system:

While it’s not top-of-the-line, Crunch is one of the brand names of Maxxonics which includes Hifonics, Autotek, and MB Quart. It’s definitely better in quality than your normal flea-market or big box store products.

If you prefer dual subs, consider this MTX package:

Use this amp wiring kit:
