How do you connect speakers to a subwoofer?

The subwoofer has l/r speaker level out, l/r speaker level in and line in and line out jacks. I have five speakers. Can I connect the speakers directly to the subwoofer or do I need to get a reciever or is there an other way to connect the speakers?

You need a receiver to connect your speakers. L/R speaker level used to get signal from a receiver. How can you get audio signal from devices without receiver, you can’t connect directly subwoofer to device.

  1. Many more expensive subwoofers have their over crossover circuitry to split the low-end frequencies from the rest of the sound coming out of your receiver. You can use this circuitry, or ignore it and let your receiver’s crossover settings do the work.

The only reason I can think of doing this is if you have an stereo receiver or other source that does not have a Subwoofer output.

If you use the subwoofer’s crossover, run the Left and Right speaker wires first to the sub’s L and F input terminals. Run the L and F output from the sub to your real Left and Right front speakers. Now you can adjust your crossover at the subwoofer.

Axiom speakers has a nice little article that covers this as well as crossover settings in general. Link is below.
