How is your cable or disc network connected to the tv. If it is connected to the tv you need to connect an optical cable from the tv to the Onkyo HT. When you want to hear the tv sound through the speakers you will need to select the source you connected the optical cable to the Onkyo system. Or you can connect the cable or disc network directly to the Onkyo versus to the tv. Hope this will help you out.
References :
The only thing you "should" have to do is change the input on your TV to HDMI. Using your TV remove you should have a button that will allow you to select what input for it to to read from. On my system I have my cable box connected to 1 HDMI jack on the receiver and TV connected on another HDMI jack. When I want my recierver speaker sound to come from my Cable box through the receiver I set my receiver to "Cable" and my TV to the HDMI jack the receiver is connected to.
