And why can’t they respect the fact that not everyone is Muslim - especially at 4am?
Did they miss the invention of the amazing device known as the ‘clock’?

We remember to pray without loudspeakers, and that is why in the west a lot of people go to the mosques without Athan. In islamic countries, you do not like the athan you are more than welcome to leave the country.

They could maybe send out a mass call on cell phones but I think the sound would be worse.

The earliest here is about 6am .. wow, just started again as I type, coincidence?
Anyway, I never hear the first one, I sleep through it and there are at least 3 Mosques near to me, one right next door.
One guy at our local Mosque has the most beautiful voice though, makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. The old fellow calling the faithful now sounds like he needs a soothing drink and a throat pastille.
I appreciate it as a part of the culture that I chose to live in and to be honest my ears are usually pretty deaf to it now.
It is just the Muslim equivalent of the Church Bells that we have back in England, I lived near the Church in my village and believe me, Church Bells can be extremely invasive and go on for much longer than the call to prayer.
Bell ringing….. you try living next door to a Church on practice night.

As for the `you are welcome to leave the country` remark. How many times have we on here heard exactly the same comment from members of the American Christian contingent on this board ?
