Can I hook up Peavey loudspeakers to a home stereo system?
I have a pair of Peavey speakers used by a band. I would like to see if I can use them with a home stereo system. If so, they use 1/4 inch male connectors how can I convert to a two wire connection to the stereo? Thanks,
Phil
very bad idea. those speakers will have an impedence level not compatible with your reciever, you will do damage to the reciever and the speakers if you try this regardless of how you splice them.
Yes you can connect them to a stereo.
Be sure their impedance is either 8 or 4 Ohms (as most of the Peaveys are).
You could buy a 1/4" phone plug (try Radio Shack), and connect each of the wires of your cable to each of the terminals of the connector. Be sure not to short the wires.
Some Peaveys have input jacks for either Full Range or for each of the drivers independently. Connect them Full Range.
Peaveys have very high efficiency, so they will sound very loud. They are not High Fidelity, but you’ll be surprised of their good sound.
Use the same polarity (cables have a stripe on one the wires). If you reverse one side (Left or Right) respect to the other, you will have low frequency cancellation.

Phil - You will not hurt your receiver. The first answerer is right. You will need to connect wires to a 1/4 inch plug. It will work fine.
