i already have a 600 watt sony xplod amp 4 channel hooked to four pioneer speakers. i just got a 12” pioneer sub. and i need a single channel amp. it doesnt have to be that powerful but ive heard that its bad for alternators to handle multiple amps. any input???
i would like to use around 300-500 watt amp for the sub. so my total power would be around 1000 watts.

You’ll have no problems.

"….. Your 600 watt amp (I doubt you have it go at that power, it would destroy the car, without saying anything about your ears and brain) at full power requires at least 50 amps, more since the amp is not 100% efficient."

Are you serious?? 600 watts would not destroy a car, or anything in fact. You won’t come close to doing damage to the car until 10,000 watts +. 600 watts is nothing, but I’ll say that amp probably puts out half that.

Hey Guys,
How many Volts, Watts, and Amps are in the average Car Battery?

Most car batteries are called 12 volt, although when running, can go as high as 14 volts. But the battery is still called a 12 volt system.
Amps are the driving force, and battery amperage can be as low as 200 amps for small cars, to maybe 1000 amps, for larger vehicles. The amps come into play when starting a vehicle, which can take 200 amps or more just to start, then the amperage drops and maintains a lower level, and the alternator keeps making current to replace that which is used.
During cold periods, the batter loses power, such as at 0 degrees, it has half of its power. And when it gets colder, the battery loses even more power, that is why it is so much harder to start a car during the winter.
Suppose you had a real cold engine, which took five times more energy to turn over because of the cold, the oil is cold and the metal is cold and stiff. Add to that a battery with less then half the power because of the cold.
You see, that’s the problem. That is why batteries are rated at 550 amp/hour or higher, to allow for loss during cold periods. A 550 amphour battery would only have 250 amps at 0 degrees temperature.

Watts are amount of power used, and is figured by mulitplying the volts times the amps. So if a car is using 5 amps, at 12 volts, to run the headlights, it is using 60 watts of power. (5 x 12). But most people think of batteries as amps and volts only, hardly ever think of watts. Headlights are rated at watts, such as high beam 55 watts, low beam 35 watts. So high beam would use close to 5 amps of amperage and low beams, about 3 amps., at 12 volts.

We have a long 6 hour drive coming up next month and my 5 month old son hates his carseat. I have a feeling the only thing that is going to keep him happy during the trip is if we get a DVD Player for the car and stock up on Baby Einstein videos. He doesn’t watch TV otherwise so hopefully it will be unusual and entertaining enough to keep him happy! Anyone know of a good model that can be used with a rear-facing carseat? Thanks!

pretty much any DVD player will work, although I don’t approve of using a DVD to keep a child that young entertained in the car. I’m assuming your rear seats have head rests- try finding one with the velcro straps that are designed to attach to a headrest.

I am building an HHO generator and would like it to have 30 amps to be able to run it. Thus i would like to put about a 120 amp alternator on it. Would this be harmful

if you find one rated 120 amps make sure you have the proper voltage regulator for it or ask if it has an internal regulator

A capacitor with 25 volts and 4,700 uf has how many amps, and how many amps would that be if I had four in parallel?

Capacitors don’t "have amps". You need to explain this better.

If you mean how much current you can draw from a charged capacitor, it depends on the load. Yes, if you had 4 in parallel, you would be able to draw more current, if the load were adjusted to call for that much current. If the load stays the same, then 4 caps would supply the same current as 1 cap, it would just last four times as long.

But the important part is that the current is NOT determined by the cap, it is determined by the load you put on it.

.
