The Acoupower drivers are the most linear 15" and 18" transducers ever manufactured.  This linearity is unique and unmatched in ALL of the critical areas, motor BL, suspension compliance, and thermal power compression.  In order to take true advantage of these design features, the power handling of these transducers is approximately 3 kW, depending on the application.  The one of a kind lead out wires and surround geometry enable these drivers to withstand the most demanding applications with ease.  The reliability is simply unheard of in the audio industry.  We shipped our first drivers out nearly three years ago, and not a single driver has been returned for any reason.

Acoupower drivers are also tremendously cost effect.  The patent pending design of the Acoupower drivers is relatively simple, and the drivers are available for under $1,000.00 even in quantities of one.  In higher quantities, the price can go as low as $750.00 each.

A) Most studio, high end home audio, and high end home theater clients are using amplifiers rated 500-1000W into 8 ohms.  This is reasonable for high end applications as there is no audible distortion or power compression from an Acoupower 15" or 18" subwoofer when used with amplifiers of this size.  If you hear anything nasty, it is electrical clipping somewhere in the signal chain.  When combined with 100% reliability, many high end audio customers love the simplicity of this approach.

B) If your goal is to maximize your acoustic power density, an amplifier capable of 2,000-3,000W RMS into 8 Ohms is recommended.  There are many good amplifiers currently used in the professional audio industry that are relatively low in cost and will get to this power level in bridged mode.  While our drivers are capable of dissipating up to 3,600W RMS long term, for maximum audio quality, we recommend keeping the true RMS power in the 1,000W range.  Using higher power amplifiers and keeping the RMS levels a bit lower results in bass systems that are capable of enormous output and wide dynamic range without fear of signal clipping or damage to the loudspeakers.  For high end audio and home theater applications, it simply does not get any better than that.  For pro-audio applications, the RMS levels can be increased, compression can be utilized and the headroom can be diminished, as desired.

In a nutshell, well designed and very strong boxes work best!  Please refer to our enclosure recommendations link from our Technical Resources Page.  This web page discusses many important issues related to the design of enclosures for Acoupower Subwoofer drivers.

High end home loudspeaker manufacturer Snell Acoustics had its entire operation in this same building for many years.  While we share no formal business ties with Snell, or their parent company Boston Acoustics, we are proud to continue the tradition of audio excellence here in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
