Does anyone know of some good stand mount speakers in the 2-$5K range?

Looking for some stand mount speakers to use in conjunction with my velodyne DD15 subwoofer. Looking for something musical sounding but detailed, something that doesn’t color the crap out of the music, like make it sound too warm or mid-bassy, but doesn’t sound sterile either. I mostly listen to rock/pop with a little jazz thrown in every now and then.
Any help or pointing me in the right direction will be appreciated, as every manufacturer says their speakers sound perfect.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Looking for something passive as I LOVE my McIntosh MC252.

Paradigm, Simple as that. for that price you could get a pair of Signiture S8’s (http://paradigm.com/en/reference/fronts-signature-signatures8-model-2-17-1-34.paradigm). Those run about $3,000 and are very, very nice.

would i need a separate amp to power a Klipsch RB-81 system?

I was thinking of getting a Klipsch RB-81 system in 5.1, and will be using for 90% movies/games and 10% music. I currently have the receiver only.

-Receiver Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH
-Amp: Emotiva XPA-5
-Fronts: Klipsch RB-81
-Center: Klipsch RC-62
-Surround: Klipsch RS-62
-Sub: velodyne SPL-1200R

here is my question:
My receiver outputs 110w rms per channel but the speakers are 150w rms and have sensitivity of 97 db.

Will i be under powering or will a Emotiva XPA-5 amp @ 200w per channel be better?

Thanks!!!

They are not the interchangeable. The Emotiva is a Power amp, so you would also need a pre-amp/controller (or the Pioneer and bypass it’s power amp section).

That said, the Pioneer will work fine with the Klipsch speakers. The 150 watt rating for the RB-81 is power handling, not how much it takes to power them. Also with the high sensitivity (97dB) you don’t need a lot of power to get loud sound.

Finally, keep in mind that to increase loudness by 3 dB (barely noticeable) you have to double the power. So you are not talking about any significant difference in loudness even if you cranked the volume up all the way … which you won’t need to do.

Home Theater speakers - $400 - which ones?

Hi -

I am looking for home theater speaks ($400 for both or $200 each) and i am kind of stumped. I know there is no "best" speaker out there, but what does everyone recommend? don’t tell me bose please because those are a POS for this price range. i am willing to spend a LITTLE bit more, but not much. I have an HK reciever and a velodyne sub, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

Check out the Energy C-500 speakers at Audio Advisor on special for 200 each, If you’re looking for just the front two speakers then this will do nicely.
http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ENC500

Those are floorstanding towers, in case you are looking for something smaller the C-200 bookshelf speakers are on sale for 150.

These are a couple examples of what’s out there for clearance sale prices for some really good speakers. Check out the specials at Crutchfield, Vann’s, Audio Advisor and Best Buy.

How to connect a Power amplifier to a Denon AVR-8308 CI receiver? Help!?

I own a Denon AVR-8308 CI receiver and a velodyne 1250 power amplifier I can’t seem to figure out how to make them both compatible? The amp has RCA’S jacks.

I tried the SW PRE INPUT and PRE OUTPUT. Nothing?

I tried the PRE OUT Zone 2 and Zone 3 turned them both ON than adjusted the volume (DB) Nothing?

On my old SONY receiver I plugged the RCA’s into “AUDIO OUT “And I had no problems. I know the Denon is complex

Am I doing something wrong or missing a step? What are the chances something is wrong with the Denon receiver?
Thank you,

surely you plug the RCA into an "out" from the receiver, into an "in" on the amplifier. You’ve been a bit ambiguous as to the options behind the particular items, but in general the power amp should be the last element connected before the speakers get the signal.

My audio receiver stopped sending signal to my subwoofer. What is causing this problem?

I have a Yamaha 5.1 receiver. velodyne woofer connected with the LFE input. It was working fine for over a year and suddenly stopped receiving signal. The subwoofer is working fine (it makes sound if you unplug the receiver end of the LFE cable and tap on it).

You need to reenter the setup menu, and ascertain that the speakers are set to "small", and that the subwoofer is turned on. Also, make sure that you didn’t turn the sub down accidentally (if it is too soft a volume setting, it will sound as if it is off), or reset the crossover frequency (too low, and it won’t get much of the signal to process).

Good luck - it is probably the setup.

best settings for my amp?

i have a denon1507 amp with a velodyne impac12, bw 683 tower for the front, bw htm62 for center, 2 bose cube speakers for the back

Whats the best settings
speakers large or small?
Cross over for the amp above 80 or below
Phase for the sub
Frequency for the sub
Dts or prologic
Help please
The room is medium size

Speakers on small because you have a sub
crossover at 80 (probably) depends on your room acoustics you have to tweek it
Same with phase try it one way then the other and see which sounds more natural.

Audio pulse, RE audio XXX or Suggested Sub for home theater?

I have been looking for the right Subwoofer for my home theater?? I was looking at using Audio pulse or RE audio XXX. I here that Audio pulse is out of business if that still true than I would get the one from parts express the Audio pulse AX12D2 AXIS 12" DVC Subwoofer 2 OHM and use 1 sub.
I have the Carver M500 the power output is: 251 WATTS/CHANNEL @ 8 OHMS 350 WATTS/CHANNEL @ 4 OHMS, 700 WATTS MONO @ 8 OHMS.
I also have the VELODYNE SC-1250 AMPLIFIER that is staple at 1250 watt RMS stereo @ 8 ohms it can handle a 4 ohm load MONO but I am not sure if it is recommended from the company.

I am thinking of Two 12” or 15” D4 ohm Subs or ONE 12” or 15” D2 ohm and running it at 4ohm. I would like to use my velodyne since it has more options than the Carver but I want to make sure the VELODYNE is enough power to do what I want to accomplish?

I want it to shack the crap out of the house that is what I am looking for I am a bass head you could say. I am looking to have a very low Hz around 30- 40 Hz if possible ported or sealed.
A friend of mine has the JL Audio Fathom F113 I want to BLOW it away!
I was thinking of building the DEATH BOX from DECWARE or I will use my Bass Box Pro. Program to design the box.

So if anyone has any advice on what Subs to use or One or Two? It would be a big help to me.
Thank you

Ok, the i understand exactly what you want. look into a soundsplinter rl-p 18. They are $420 a peice. So you could get two for the price of one of the others. Now i did notice that the two subs you were looking at were mostly for SQ. This one is SQ but it is loud as hell. It has an Fs of 20.71Hz for the dual 2 ohm 18" and 21.5Hz for the dual 4 ohm 18". So this sub is meant for the low lows lol. I sent them an e-mail and got a response quick, good customer service and a great product, what more do you want? Anyways, i too am buying one of these subwoofers for my home theatre set up. In the e-mail i sent him i asked what about what kind of box he would recommend, and he said that 1 18" rl-p would love a 18 cu ft box tuned to 14Hz(in the e-mail he says this will be the optimal enclosure for this driver), so you 30-40Hz will be nothing, you will have clean loud response down to ~10Hz(Fathom cannot top that, and this one will do it louder and just as clean, if not cleaner, this is also where the crazy shaking comes in), can’t bet that for $420. This sub is amazing. Now just imagine two of them in two separate 18 cu ft boxes, WOW. You will make the gotham sound like crap then, and be louder, and you will have saved $11,580. If you need a smaller box cause i know 18 cu ft is huge, then he recommended 12.8 cu ft at 18Hz. Well i hope this has helped you, take my advice and buy the rl-p, you WILL NOT be disapointed, but your freind will be beggin for trades. lol

Hows this Home Theater setup? (Polk,Velodyne, Emotiva, Pioneer Elite)?

-Receiver Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH
-Amp: Emotiva XPA-5
-Front towers: Polk Audio RTi A9
-Center: Polk Audio CSi A6
-Surround: Polk Audio FXi A6
-Sub: Velodyne SPL-1200R

I will mostly be using this for movies and games

I currently have just the receiver but would the emotiva amp and this selection of polk audio speakers be good? I will be getting the amp for $ 825.00 and a deal on the speakers for $ 1,950.00. These speakers would normally cost me $2709, so its a steal. Other than the Polk i was interested in the Klipsch RF-63 system (RF-63,RC-64,RS-62) but this was gonna cost me about $ 3,500 and i’m not sure if the extra $1,550 is worth it. I know it would be better to compare side by side but i was wondering what net had to say.

here are my questions again to make it easy:

-Is the polk audio selection i picked good?
-Would it be worth it to spend an extra $1500 to upgrade to klipsch?
-Is Polk Audio..Good,Great,Awesome, Cheap, Sucks, or Trash ?
-hows does Polk Audio compare to Klipsch in Home Theater?

Thanks for all responses!!!

- The RF63 system is truly fantastic. Klipsch is fantastic for home theater. The horn loaded tweeters and high efficiency design lend very well to movie soundtracks and dynamic effects. You could step down a notch in Klipsch and go with the RF-82 or RB-81 system that will reduce the price tag and still be much better than the Polk speakers you listed. Polk isn’t what they used to be and have become very commercialized and profit oriented. The Polk speakers you mention aren’t bad…they are just not as good as the RF63 or RF82 package.

- Ditch the VSX-23 and go with Emotiva’s preprocessor (UMC-1). You’ll save money and the end result will be the same if not better. If you bought the XPA-5 then all you need is a prepro and the Pioneer Elite’s amps would not be used.

- Klipsch subs are over priced. Check out http://www.svsound.com or http://www.hsuresearch.com (both provide much better bang for the buck). velodyne is good, but SVS is much better and better priced.

3rd party investing 6 figures in small company - investor has shady background, what trouble can I get in.?

I am starting a partnership with Bill. Bill’s dad has a shady background and wants to invest six figures into the company. All the company accounts, certificates, business license and registrations will be in my name. Bill is under the age of 19. I was planning on getting a lawyer to draw up a partnership agreement for Bill and I. I have no idea where the six figure investment is coming from. How much trouble can I get in if it’s transferred into my account and it is found out at a later date that it was launderd money.

If there are any precautions that I should be taking please let me know, nothing has been signed or opened yet.

Thanks for every ones help.

POLK CSIA4 or POLK CS20.?

i sold my harman kardon 5.1 system and now have some spare cash and dont have a center to go with my 4 polk monitor 70 towers. i have been told by MANY people that i should match and go with a polk center speaker. my sub is pretty loud so when i would turn up my system the center would kind of fade out a lil, for example if some1 was talking and a bomb explodes i would have a hard time hearing the talk. that i think has alot 2 do with the fact that i was running 4 monito 70 tower speakers and my center was a harman kardon satellite.

i have narrowed my choices down to 2 speakers. i have enough money to get 1 speaker so money is not a issue and as i stated b4 i dont have a center right now and have to get 1. plz help me pick 1, which 1 is louder and more powerful? which 1 will compliment my towers better?

polk CSIA4
AND
polk CS20.

my current system is as follows:
1 X HARMAN KARDON AVR 354 (not in pics)
1 x velodyne DLS-5000R 15" SUBWOOFER
4 x POLK MONITOR 70 TOWER
1 x missing
2 x POLK RTI4 BOOK’S
