I’m filming a car video, any advice on how to achieve that "Top Gear" look?
It seems nowadays that if you’re filming a car video, the look that the TV show "Top Gear" seems to get is what everybody is aiming for.
I’m shooting on a Canon 60D, and am serious film editor, but cinematography is a new area for me. I know Top Gear uses vignetting and various frame rates, but do any of you other advanced filmmakers out there have any advice as far as how to really capture that "Top Gear" feel?
The field cameras are likely ~$60,000 Sony DVW-790WSP units, which would be a cheap production camera.
They use filters that cost more than your 60D! lol
The so called "HD" from and cheap (under $2000) video camera or DSLR is highly compressed, making it a poor choice for anything bigger than a laptops screen. Because of the compression, any further rendering with effects is likely to rapidly further degrade the image. Time effects in particular are out of the question.
The best you can do is use what you have effectively. If you can, upgrade to MiniDv formats like DV (Standard, Canon ZR960 is $300 new, used GL-1s go for about $500) or HDV (the real deal, canon VIXIA HV40 is $1000)
Stable shots, go wider for faster action, and use minimal transformations and effects.

put the camera near to wheel by opening the front door.. if camera is near to ground it will give the effect

The below link is a better place to ask this sort of question.
How somebody would think MiniDV is a better solution to approach HD format is obviously somebody who has never worked with the format. We’ve shot two features on DSLRs. One on a 5D Mk2 and one on a 7D. We had more issues with lens and DOF than we did with the codec or the compression. How much compression is there when you’re shooting onto a CCD surface three times the size of the RGB CCDs on an HD Cam?
Top Gear use an extensive amount of post effects. Filters? Sure, I’ll bet they use the usual suspects - polarized - ND - etc. but British TV is notoriously cheap. Fix it in post is how it’s done.
Good luck.
