How many amps does my car amplifier use? 12v 1700w rms?

I used to know the formula for this type of problem but i forgot it. My amp puts out 1700w rms how many amps will i need to run it? thanks,

Usually, amp manufacturers use 14.4v to rate the max RMS wattage of an amp. So I would be willing to bet that it wouldn’t pull over 118A turned all the way up. A 125A fuse and #1 wire will suffice.

  1. 1700 / 12 = 141.6666666 and so on.

  2. I believe you divide power by voltage so that would be about 142 amps.Someone correct me if I’m wrong,it’s been a long time since I took basic electronics.
