Car Amps can i turn off with switch remote wire ?

I have a VW t4 van and just fitted a 1000 watt amp and speakers in the back but dont want it on all the time can i put a switch in the remote wire so only front un ammped speakers work

Yes, you can switch the remote line. I get this request a lot. Usually from people with children. Just use a toggle switch to break the circuit.

there has to be a fuse you can tie into, try the one for your radio, or does that stay on also?

usually, there is a button on the radio/cd player itself that u can turn the sub individually off and still work the front speakers. try reading the manual. its usually inside "mode", or "menu".

Run a fused (1 amp, 14 AWG) wire from a fuse in the fuse panel that only has power when the car is ON to one side of a switch. From the other side of the switch run the same sized wire to the REM (remote) connection on the amp.

This allows for full control and you never have to worry about forgetting to turn off the amp. The switch is so you can turn off the amp at will so as not to give grandma a heart attack in the car.

You can find fuse taps and in-line fuse holders at any autoparts store.
