Make sure the ground is on bare metal. Scrape all paint away and bolt the ground wire to a good ground spot. Something close to the frame of the vehicle or the floor of the vehicle or trunk. Making sure you dont drill through the gas tank or anything besides metal.

Is this amplifier a stock amplifier or a subwoofer amplifier? Need a bit more info on the setup like others have said to be 100% sure. Im going to say im about 85% sure that a bad ground could be your problem though.
References :
One of its built in safety features is turning itself off. You're putting more power through it, it may not be able to handle it. Give us you speaker and amp set up and we can tell you for sure.

Also possible that your battery is too weak and you have a high powered system, resulting in loss of current.

Also possible that you have a broke amp.
References :
You may not have enough power (amperage) to run your amplifier. You may want to run your hot wire directly to your battery (use an inline fuse) so you can get the maximum amount of current draw. Also, make sure your speakers are connected correctly. If they arent wired right, the resistance could be too low for your amp and could cause a thermal overload (powering off).
References :
MECP Car audio installer for 10 years

its overloading eighter the ohms are lower than your amp can handle or theres a wire touching were it shoodnt
