what are the electrical input levels for a typical car audio amplifier?

I’m looking for the electrical inputs (12V and so on) for a typical car amplifier.
The reason I ask, I sold my truck and have an amp and box and would like to hook it up in my man cave, so I need to power the amp. Any suggestions?

Most typical amps require 12v and some 14.4v. I think you should be fine using it in your "Man Cave". Just make sure your PSU will handle the amp draw of your amp as I think NAudio was hinting at.

  1. For power they’re usually 11-15v, but current requirement can vary widely.
A low power (say 50w rms x 2) may require no more than 5-7A or so (average) at full volume - with spikes of 10A or higher.

Some large amps can require well over 50A average with spikes to 100-200A.

Amps’ acceptable input signal is generally in the 1/2 to 8v range, with current ranging from 5-50mA.
