What is the process to upgrade from 100 amps to 200 amp service?

We’re remodeling our kitchen and have run out of available circuit slots. We thought about adding a subpanel or possibly replacing our main panel with one with more circuits. The other option is to go ahead and get upgraded service with a big panel.

We are wondering what the approximate price is (in the Minneapolis, MN area) of upgrading to 200 amps? And what does that include? Thanks!

In my area, MO., my electrician charges around $700.00 to up grade. This covers pulling a permit to completion.
Good planning should make this a one day job, as well it should be, to keep things like food from going bad in your fridge among other sensitive electrical related issues.

  1. why not call a local electrician and get a quote ?
its hard to tell what your state requires , seeing we don,t live there.
a 200 amp box here is $159. have no idea what it is there
the first thing is to have the power co turn off the power from the pole, then you have to remove all wires from the box, remove 100 amp box install 200 amp box, install power lines, then add breakers and reinstall wires,
its not a 1 day thing,

have a professional licensed/bonded electrician do it. if you do it your self and is not up to code, if you had a fire and the cause was your fault, your insurance won’t be covered.
