What is the difference between MOSFET and Mono Car amps?

I am looking for an amp for my car and I dont know much about car amps… Is it better to go with a mono amp or a MOSFET amp?? I listen to mostly rap and some rock and I love my bass….
Is a Mono amp better for running subs?

MOSFET stands for Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor, and is the type of semi-conductive material used inside the actual transistor amplifying your sound. The result is a faster response from the transistor, resulting in a better quality sound experience. I do not agree with the statement that is would not work on Rap or Hip-Hop, as it applies to all types of sound. I’d spend the extra dough to get that quality (I’m a quality freak).

Mono amplifiers doesn’t necessarily mean that it can only be used for subwoofers, but seeing as it has only one channel, it works wonder for a subwoofer.

Monoblock amplifiers are made for subs though, and they are created to only amplify sound below a certain frequency, making sure they deliver maximum bass, and very little/no treble.

  1. A mosfet is just a type of transistor used in an amplifier, mono’s and multichannel’s use them.
Mono amps are almost always used for subwoofers since they are only one (hence the term mono) channel. To produce stereo (left/right) sound you have to have an amp with at least 2 channels.

  2. Apples and oranges…. "mosfet" is a term that describes a type of transistor/semiconductor inside an amp.

Mono amp means its 1 channel, and for subs only.

Since you just want the noise and not music, stick with the mono amp for your bass. The MOSFET preamplifiers are extremely good for quality stereo music and do NOTHING for Rap or Rock.

Don’t waste your money on the high-end MOSFET equipment.
