How many amps can i safely upgrade my alternator to?

It is a mazda 2.0 liter. Currently has a 70 amp alternator. Need to upgrade it for efficiency reasons. Wondering how many amps I can go up to
I am building an HHO generator and would like it to have 30 amps to be able to run it. Thus i would like to put about a 120 amp alternator on it. Would this be harmful

if you find one rated 120 amps make sure you have the proper voltage regulator for it or ask if it has an internal regulator

  1. Bypass the regulator.

  2. If you can find one, I would say 90 amps should be fine. Usually 90 amp alternators are installed stock into vehicles with power windows and such. The voltage regulator controls how much current flows. Normally the connections are different between alternators of different amperage’s.

Dont bypass the regulator. You will probably over charge and fry the battery. If you are having problems because of a new audio upgrade, go to an audio shop. They have components to solve that problem.
