Music is dynamic. There are a multitude of frequencies at any given time and they change constantly. Your amp might only be putting out a few watts per channel and then suddenly a few hundred watts because of a bass note. Multimeters can measure amps and volts, which multiplied can tell you watts, but they can't measure watts directly.
